Bio
Lauren Hendrix is a Seattle native and loves the bass. She is a third-generation resident of Seattle's beautiful Rainier Valley District.
Lauren was raised in large part by her father, Michael Brouner, a professional trumpet player and an avid Drum Corps fan, and began gigging with his Mexican band at age fourteen.
Lauren attended Garfield High School in Seattle's Central District, where she played and toured Japan with Marcus Tsutakawa's Orchestra and played and toured Europe with Clarence Acox's Jazz Ensemble. During these formative years, Lauren began gigging professionally with her Garfield colleagues in the Emerald City Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Mike Yasutake.
Many of Lauren's summers were spent in Tahiti with her Great Aunt Hina. There Lauren played bass with Ron Falconer, a Scottish folk musician and songwriter.
Lauren earned her Bachelor's degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied with John Repucci and Whit Browne, among many other fantastic faculty. During her time in Boston, Lauren played with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra.
After graduating in 2004, Lauren toured America with the Musical Theatre Production “The Three Redneck Tenors,” based in Grapevine, TX.
Lauren returned to the Dallas/Fort Worth area the following fall to begin graduate studies at the University of North Texas in Denton, where she studied under such musical forces as Lynn Seaton and Jeff Bradetich. Lauren earned her Master of Music in Jazz Studies last spring, and finished her Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Certificate at La Universidad Autónima del Estado de México in Toluca, MX last summer.
Currently, Lauren is playing in and around Seattle in several groups, most notably the Dave Dolengewicz Trio, and has a growing studio at Music Works Northwest. She is subbing with the Spokane Symphony Orchestra this season, and continues study with her long-time teacher Todd Gowers.
